Agility Classes

The Head Start, Foundation, and Handling classes are skill-building classes, one class builds upon another, missing classes and not doing your homework will put you behind very quickly.

Head Start for Agility – This class introduces you and your dog to the sport of agility by teaching you how to shape behaviors with your dog using agility obstacles. You will learn how to develop a working relationship with your dog and work towards off-lead control. This class is a two-month commitment, you must start from the beginning and attendance is crucial for you and your dog’s success and progression to the Foundation Skills for Agility class.

If you miss too many classes or don’t do your homework you will need to arrange for private lessons.

Foundation Skills for Agility – This class is a continuation of the Head Start for Agility class, and teaches all of the foundation skills DOGTAG instructors feel are necessary to do agility. We teach a controlled exit from all contact obstacles for safety and consistency, a targeted two on two off with a release word. This class is a six-month commitment and attendance is crucial for you and your dog’s success and progression to the Handling Class.

If you miss too many classes or don’t do your homework you will need to arrange for private lessons.

Handling Class – This class is a continuation of the Foundation Skills class and will provide the handler with a clearly defined handling system. The class will last from four to six months, attendance and doing your homework is crucial for your success.

If you miss too many classes or don’t do your homework you will need to arrange for private lessons.

Advanced Agility Class – This class is taught using AKC Master Level courses and sequences.

Private Lessons – Available by appointment only. Please fill out our Contact Form and we will reach out to schedule your lesson. As of the summer of 2021 Private Lesson fees are $75 per hour. There will be a $25.00 cancellation fee if you cancel the lesson less than 24 hours before your appointment. You must fill out and sign a DOGTAG Agility Enrollment Form prior to training at our facility.

New students with existing skills – If you feel that you and your dog are ready to join an existing class you may contact us to schedule an evaluation. Admission into an existing class is based solely on the recommendation of the DOGTAG instructors and not on previous classes attended at another facility or at what level you and your dog may be currently trialing. The evaluation fee is $30.00. If you enroll in a class following the evaluation, the fee will be applied to your first enrollment.

The Enrollment form is located at the bottom of the Policies page.
